Delhi High Court pulls up YouTube for not regulating content in Aaradhya Bachchan plea

The High Court of Delhi on Thursday pulled up the American global online video sharing and social media platform YouTube for not regulating its content over a petition filed by Aaradhya Bachchan, granddaughter of Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan, over fake news circulated on her health.

The Single-Judge Bench of Justice C. Harishankar said YouTube’s ‘no tolerance policy’ was faulty. Every video uploaded on the money-making platform brought them revenue. It asked YouTube whether it had any responsibility.

High Court, while issuing interim directions, said Google LLC is duty-bound in law to ensure strict compliance with the entire statutory regime relating to intermediaries with which it is governed which includes IT Rules 202

Earlier on Wednesday, Aaradhya, daughter of Abhishek and Aishwarya Bachchan, moved the High Court against multiple YouTube channels for reporting fake news about her health.

The media report mention that a couple of YouTube channels namely Bollywood Time and Bollywood Chingari.

The petition was filed by the 11-year-old Aaradhya(with help of her father Avbhishek Bachchan)has asked about ten entities for delisting and deactivating all videos about her.

As per the petition, these fake news and videos have infringed Aaradhya’s right to privacy and tarnish the goodwill and reputation of the Bachchan family.

The petition, which was filed by the law firm Anand and Naik, said that the defendants motivation was to unlawfully profit from the reputation of the Bachchan family, without thinking of the damage it may cause to the plaintiffs and their family members.

The petition also stated for making Google LLC and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Grievance Cell) as parties in the case.

Way back in December 2021, Abhishek Bachchan had given a befitting reply to trolls targeting his daughter Aaradhya on social media.

While taking to the BollywoodLife, Abhishek had said that he can accept those who target him as he is a public figure but targeting Aaradhya is completely unacceptable and he will not tolerate it.

Abhishek said that questioning him is fair game, as he is a public figure, but his daughter is out of bounds for public scrutiny.

Abhishek even warned the trolls saying that if people truly mean what they say, they should come and say it to his face.
