Supreme Court Bench orders Trial Court Judge for submitting fresh report on abduction and rape of a Kerala actor


The Supreme Court of India has directed the Trial Court to complete trial in the Malayalam actor assault case within July 31.

A Bench comprising of Justice Dinesh Maheshwari and Justice Sanjay Kumar have asked the Trial Judge for submitting a fresh report on the progress of the trial by August 4 in the 2017 case related to abduction and rape of a Kerala actor.

The bench added that they have taken note of the report sent by the Trial Judge. The time for completion of trial is further extended. But we expect the trial to be concluded in all respects, latest by July 31, 2023.

The court has directed that the matter should be listed  on August 4 when the trial Court shall be expected to send a fresh progress report before the next date.

The trial is still going on till date. Dileep and his associates are being tried for conspiring to set the wheels of a revenge crime in motion against a female actor in the Malayalam film industry, by having her abducted, sexually assaulted, and photographed.

In July 2017, Dileep was arrested and charged under various offences under the IPC, including Sections 366 (kidnapping), 120B (criminal conspiracy) , and 376D (gangrape). He was subsequently released on bail.
