Firing in Tis Hazari Courts after scuffle between lawyers turns violent, no injuries reported

A scuffle between two different groups of lawyers, including office-bearers of the Tis Hazari Court turned ugly on Wednesday as one of the Advocates fired multiple rounds in the air, while hurling abuses at the other side.

According to Delhi Police, no one was injured in the incident, which took place near Western Wing Chamber 433/434 of the Tis Hazari Court, falling under the limits of Subzi Mandi Police Station, at around 1:35 pm. 

Police further said that officials had reached the spot and the situation was under control.

Condemning the incident, Chairman of Bar Council of Delhi K.K. Manan said that he has ordered a detailed inquiry into the incident, in order to probe whether the weapons used during the incident were licensed or not. 

Talking to a leading news agency, Manan said that even if the weapons were licensed, no lawyer or anyone else had the right to use them like this inside or around the court premises.

This is not the first episode of firing in a court premises. Earlier on April 21, a suspended lawyer had fired four rounds in the premises of Saket court, injuring a 42-year-old woman in her stomach.

The debarred lawyer was later identified as Kameshwar Singh (49), who had filed a case of cheating against M. Radha and her lawyer Rajendra Jha over a monetary dispute involving Rs 25 lakh.

Singh and Radha reportedly had a heated argument outside the lawyers’ block in the Saket Court Complex on April 21, after which the debarred lawyer took out a pistol and fired four rounds from a close range, wounding the woman and also leading to injuries to another Advocate standing nearby.

Earlier on September 24, 2021, three people, including gangster Jitender Gogi, were killed inside a courtroom at the Rohini Court Complex premises.

Police said that two assailants dressed as lawyers had opened fire at gangster Jitender Gogi inside the courtroom, where an attempt to murder case was being heard against him. The duo, who were from a rival gang, were then killed in a swift counter-fire by the police, it added.
