The Supreme Court on Wednesday granted two weeks time to the Enforcement Directorate, to submit its response on the bail petition filed by M. Sivasankar, former Principal Secretary to the Kerala Chief Minister.
Appearing for the national agency, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the Court that they required some time to verify the facts and file their response.
Sivasankar had filed a petition in the Apex Court, seeking bail on medical grounds in the case related to the Livelihood, Inclusion and Financial Empowerment (LIFE) Mission project.
The LIFE Mission Housing project was initiated by the Kerala government for the homeless.
Sivasankar was represented by Senior Advocate Jaideep Gupta, assisted by Advocate-on-Record Manu Srinath. The Senior Advocate apprised the top court of the country that Sivasankar’s health was fast deteriorating.
As per the SG, Sivasankar was offered treatment in the government hospital, which he refused.
Senior Advocate Gupta contended that Sivasankar refused treatment in a government hospital because it did not have adequate facilities.
Justice Sundresh then asked why Sivasankar was not ready for treatment at a government hospital despite being a former government servant.
The Apex Court adjourned the matter for hearing in the first week of August.
