Delhi Riots 2020: Court orders day-to-day hearing of cases registered under UAPA

Come September 11, the cases registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act over larger conspiracy leading to Delhi riots in 2020 will have a day-to-day hearing.

The order was passed on Saturday by Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat of Karkardooma court.

The court took note of the fact that compliance under Section 207 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) qua all the chargesheeted accused persons was complete.

It then listed the matter for hearing of arguments on the point of charge from September 11 on a day-to-day basis.

On September 11, Special Public Prosecutor Amit Prasad, representing the Delhi Police, will begin his submissions.

The ASJ ordered physical appearance of all the accused from the next date of hearing.

He further directed the IO concerned to remain present on the next date of hearing.

The Court directed that a copy of this order be sent to the concerned Jail Superintendent for information and compliance.

Former JNU students Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam, along with activists Gulfisha Fatima, Khalid Saifi and Safoora Zargar were arrested under UAPA for their alleged involvement in Delhi Riots 2020.

Former Aam Aadmi Party Councillor Tahir Hussain has also been named as an accused in the case.
