Cash for query controversy: Mahua Moitra drops defamation case against media houses

Mahua Moitra, the Trinamool Congress Member of Parliament (MP), informed the Delhi High Court today that she will no more be pressing any relief against media houses in the defamation suit filed by her in the matter related to the cash for query in Parliament.

The Counsels appearing for Moitra informed the single-judge bench of Justice Sachin Datta that the leader will now be pressing for relief against Advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai and BJP MP Nishikant Dubey.

The BJP MP was represented by Advocate Abhimanyu Bhandari, who apprised the court that during an interview, the TMC leader had agreed that she had handed over her parliamentary login details to businessman Darshan Hiranandani.

The counsel contended that this act qualified as perjury as the claim on the suit was totally otherwise.

News agency ANI was represented by Advocate Siddhant Kumar, who said that now when Moitra was not seeking relief against the media houses, she should amend her suit to reflect this stance as there were allegations against the media outlets in the suit.

The Delhi High Court has strictly asked the Counsel of Moitra to amend the memo of parties accordingly and adjourned the matter.

The case will be heard next on December 5.
