The Orissa High Court disposed of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed challenging the decision of the opposite parties in shifting the Pediatrics Department/ Wing of the S.C.B. Medical College & Hospital, Cuttack and its merger with Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Post Graduate Institute of Pediatrics, Cuttack, better known as Sishu Bhavan.
The petitioner contended that after shifting of Pediatrics Department/Wing to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Post Graduate Institute of Pediatrics, Cuttack, decision was taken to close down the said department at S.C.B. Medical College & Hospital, Cuttack.
But fact remains if it will be merged entirely with Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Post Graduate Institute of Pediatrics, Cuttack, then the patents will be deprived of the inter-departmental medical facilities which was being provided at S.C.B. Medical College & Hospital, Cuttack.
D. Mohanty, Additional Government Advocate contended that after commencement of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Post Graduate Institute of Pediatrics, Cuttack, the same has been revamped and new buildings have come up by providing all interdepartmental medical facilities.
He further contended that if necessary, doctors from S.C.B. Medical College & Hospital, Cuttack can be requisitioned, so that the treatment of the patients should not suffer.
Having heard counsel for the parties and after going through the records, since the relief sought for by the petitioner has been granted to the that extent, the Division Bench of Chief Justice B.R. Sarangi and Justice Murahari Sri Raman disposed of the Petition permitting the petitioner to approach the Court, if any indiscipline or irregularities is pointed out, with regard to the treatment of the patients in future, by filing appropriate application, so that the same can be taken care of and necessary orders can be passed.
