The Bar Council of India (BCI) has written a letter to Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, requesting him to declare a holiday for all courts across the country on January 22, on the occasion of Pran Pratishtha Mahotsav (consecration ceremony) of Lord Ram at the newly-built Ram Mandir at Ayodhya, which is scheduled to be held on January 22.
BCI Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra urged the CJI to declare a court holiday on January 22 on the grounds that it would demonstrate a ‘harmonious’ blend of legal processes with the cultural ethos of the nation.
Earlier on Monday, the New Delhi Bar Association (NDBA) had requested judicial officers not to pass any adverse orders for non-appearance of advocates and litigants on January 22.
Honorary Secretary of NDBA ON Sharma wrote a letter to the Principal District & Sessions Judge of the Patiala House Court on January 15, stating that due to the Praan Pratishtha Mahotsav of Shri Ram Lalla in Ayodhya, some advocates may not be able to appear in the court on January 22. He urged the Judge to direct all judicial officers not to pass any adverse order against non-appearance of either the advocates or the litigants.
The consecration ceremony, which will be presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will be attended by a host of dignitaries from various fields. Over 8,000 guests, including industrialists, sports persons and Bollywood actors, are expected to grace the occasion.
