The appointment of judicial officer Arun Kumar Rai as a judge of the Jharkhand High Court was recommended by the Supreme Court collegium on Thursday.
As per the collegium report, Rai was recommended for elevation in September last year by the Jharkhand High Court collegium.
Thereafter, the only consulting judge in the Supreme Court familiar with the matters of the Jharkhand High Court were consulted to assess the suitability of judicial officer Arun Kumar Rai for the post.
After all the material placed on record, including the report of the Judgment Assessment Committee. were scrutinised, did the reoort come.
It is important to note that the Judgment Evaluation Committee constituted by the Chief Justice of the High Court has rated the quality of judgments authored by him as ‘Very Good’.
The resoution stated that while considering the proposal for appointment, they have also taken note of the fact that the above proposal involves non-recommendation of two senior judicial officers.
As of January 1, the Jharkhand High Court is functioning with 18 judges as against its sanctioned strength of 25 judges.
