Gauhati High Court disposes of suo motu PIL on Nagaon house demolition by police

The Gauhati High Court disposed of a Suo Moto Public Interest Litigation (PIL) registered by the High Court  on the basis of the allegation that the house belonging to one of the citizens of Nagaon was bulldozed by the police personnel of Batadraba Police Station.

N.K. Sarma, counsel who appeared for the petitioner has submitted that so far as the compensation amount in respect of 7(seven) of the houses which were  demolished by the police illegally, 6(six) persons have already received the compensation amount, however wife of one of the deceased has not received the said compensation amount.  

D. Nath, Senior Government Advocate, Assam appearing for the State has submitted that, as a matter of fact, the compensation amount has already been sanctioned by the Home Department and the matter is under process. 

It is submitted that the said compensation amount shall be paid to the wife of the deceased within a period 2(two) weeks.   

Keeping in view the above assurance made by  Senior Government Advocate, Assam, the Division Bench of Chief Justice Vijay Bishnoi and Justice Suman Shyam is of the view that no further order is required to be passed in this PIL (Suo Motu) petition.
