The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Tuesday (August 29) directed that an Action Plan has to be filed with the court by September 4, regarding illegal encroachments and construction on the floodplains of the river Yamuna.
On the last date of hearing, the tribunal had constituted a principal committee, comprising the secretary, Ministry of Water Resources, special invitee Shashi Shekhar, the former secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources, along with all other members of the previously constituted principal committee. The bench had given the committee two weeks to file its report.
The bench said that the action plan must include the stretch of NCT of Delhi, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh (till Sangam in Allahabad).
The bench also directed the NCT of Delhi and the Delhi Jal Board to submit affidavits in this regard.
The next date of hearing is September 15.
