Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh has been packed off to jail and he has said that he will appeal to the high court against the special CBI court’s judgment.

Meanwhile, it would be pertinent to know what made the court decide on this harsh punishment.

The CBI court, which sent Gurmeet Ram Rahim to 20 years in jail for raping two  of his sevikas at his own Dera Sacha Sauda in Panchkula, has observed in its order that he “did not even spare his own pious disciples and had acted like (a) wild beast.”

The court stated that “he (Gurmeet) does not deserve any mercy. In other words, a man who has no concern for humanity, nor has any mercy in his nature, do (sic) not deserve leniency from the court.”

The nine-page order by Judge Jagdeep Singh—you can read it here—spared little room for the godman to manoeuvre. How the high court views this will depend on how the CBI manages to co0nvince the judges.
