National Green Tribunal disposes of plea against cow shelter in Baghpat

The National Green Tribunal’s (NGT) Principal Bench in New Delhi has disposed of an application filed by one Ashok Kumar, relating to the mismanagement of a cow shelter in Chhaprauli, Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh.

The applicant alleged that the shelter, intended for 500 cows, currently houses only 97 and poses environmental risks due to improper cow dung management and waste disposal.

The applicant’s counsel, Yash Vardhan Kaushik, argued that the shelter’s location within a densely populated area violates the Central Pollution Control Board’s (CPCB) siting criteria. However, he failed to provide specific criteria to support this claim.

Considering the issue’s complexity, the Principal Bench of Justice Prakash Shrivastava, Justice Arun Kumar Tyagi and Dr A. Senthil Vel directed the Member Secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) to examine the matter and take remedial action.

The applicant has been permitted to file a detailed complaint with relevant materials to the UPPCB.
