The Punjab and Haryana High Court has disposed of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking an inquiry into alleged misconduct of municipal authorities in Faridabad, Haryana.
The PIL, filed by Krishan Lal Gera, alleged that municipal authorities had colluded with a private contractor to make bogus payments for civil constructions.
The Court took cognizance of the matter and directed the State of Haryana to file a status report.
In its response, the State of Haryana informed the Court that two FIRs had been registered against the officers/officials of the Municipal Corporation, Faridabad, and the contractor.
However, the investigation was pending due to non-cooperation by municipal authorities in providing necessary data to the investigating agencies.
The Court, in its order, directed the Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Faridabad, to supply the necessary information/material to assist the State Vigilance Bureau, Faridabad, now Anti Corruption Bureau, to conduct and conclude the investigation in accordance with law.
The Division Bench of Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Sudhir Singh also directed that the investigation be concluded expeditiously.
The PIL was disposed of with the above directions, ensuring that the investigation into the alleged misconduct of the Municipal Authorities is completed without any further delay.
