Punjab and Haryana High Court disposes of PIL on Chinese manjha safety concerns

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has disposed of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) raising concerns about the manufacturing, sale, storage, and use of Chinese manjha (string) in Punjab.

The petitioner alleged that the use of Chinese manjha posed a danger to public safety and human life.

The bench of Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Sudhir Singh observed the allegations made in the petition were of a generic nature and that the petitioner had already filed a representation dated December 27, 2024, before the relevant authorities.

The Court directed the respondent authorities to look into the grievance raised by the petitioner in the representation and decide the matter by passing a speaking order within 30 days from the date of receipt of the copy of the order.

The Court also directed that a copy of the outcome of the representation be supplied to the petitioner.
