Punjab and Haryana High Court disposes of PIL against stray animals in Haryana towns

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has disposed of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition filed raising concerns about the presence of stray animals in towns, cities, villages, and roads in the State of Haryana.

The petitioner alleged that these stray animals were causing obstruction in the free flow of traffic and giving rise to various other complications such as accidents and diseases.

The court, while refraining from entering into the merits of the matter, directed the concerned authorities to redress the grievance of the petitioner.

The Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Sumeet Goel ordered that the representation made by the petitioner, dated 01-09-2024, be considered and decided by the respondents within a period of 30 days from the date of communication of the order.

A speaking order was also directed to be passed and communicated to the petitioner within the stipulated timeframe.

With these directions, the petition was disposed of.
