The Punjab and Haryana High Court has recently dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) raising concerns about alleged illegal mining activities undertaken by stone crushers operating in the border areas between Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.
The court observed that a representation had been made by the petitioner to the authorities on December 13, 2024, but declined to enter into the merits of the matter.
Instead, the court granted liberty to the petitioner to move a fresh representation to the Secretary, Department of Mining and Geology, Punjab, within a period of 15 days along with a copy of the order.
The bench, comprising Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Sumeet Goel, directed that if such a representation is made, it shall be considered and decided by the authorities.
With this liberty, the petition was disposed of.
