A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Allahabad High Court seeking to stop the discharge of water from slaughter houses into rivers during the Maha Kumbh.
The petition filed by Neha Singh, a 4th year student of B.A LL.B (Hons) at Noida International University and daughter of environmentalist Shailesh Singh, stated that M/s Ribbon International based in Hapur and other companies in Aligarh-Bulandshahr are involved in such activities which are causing great harm to the environment.
When the petitioner himself investigated it, she found that untreated waste is being directly discharged into the rivers, which is a serious threat to the health of the people. Lakhs of devotees come to take bath in these rivers.
The petitioner said that she has captured photographs and videos of blood-mixed waste being dumped from the slaughterhouses of M/s International Agro Foods in Ghaziabad and M/s Rebon International in Hapur on January 25 and 28. They dump it in open areas and drains, which join the Yamuna and Hindon. This is polluting the rivers at Sangam in Prayagraj.
During the Maha Kumbh, the religious sentiments of devotees coming not only from India but also from abroad are hurt.
