Centre approves elevation of three additional judges of Bombay High Court as permanent judges

The Union of India on Tuesday gave its nod to the appointment of three additional judges of the Bombay High Court as permanent judges of the same High Court.

The judges, who have been made permanent, include Justice Shailesh Pramod Brahme, Justice Firdosh Phiroze Pooniwalla and Justice Jitendra Shantilal Jain.

The Central government further extended the term of Justice Manjusha Ajay Deshpande as an additional judge for one more year.

The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended the elevation of these Additional Judges in February, 2025.

As on March 1, the Bombay High Court is functioning with 66 judges as against its sanctioned strength of 94, with a vacancy of 28.
