The Supreme Court Collegium on Thursday recommended the appointment of Calcutta High Court judge Justice Harish Tandon as Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court.
The Collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, made the recommendation following the retirement of Chief Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh on January 19, 2025.
Justice Arindam Sinha is currently serving as the Acting Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court.
Justice Harish Tandon was appointed as a judge of the Calcutta High Court on April 13, 2010 and has served there since.
He currently stands at 7th rank in the All-India Seniority of High Court Judges and is a senior puisne judge in his parent High Court.
Before his elevation, he practiced in civil matters at the Calcutta High Court.
The Collegium noted that Justice Tandon has acquired extensive experience in dispensing justice. He was considered to be a competent judge and possessed a high level of integrity and conduct required of a person holding a high judicial office.
