The Union government has notified the appointment of Justice Todupunuri Amarnath Goud as Acting Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court.
The Central government took the decision in view of the transfer of current Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court, Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, to the Telangana High Court.
Justice Goud will perform the duties of the High Court Chief Justice till Justice MSR Ramachandra Rao, currently serving as Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court, takes charge as Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court.
The Ministry of Law & Justice issued a notification on Thursday, stating that in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President was pleased to appoint Justice Todupunuri Amarnath Goud, judge of the Tripura High Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of that High Court consequent upon transfer of Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court as Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court and till Justice Mamidanna Satya Ratna Sri Ramachandra Rao, Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court, took charge as Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court.
Justice Goud enrolled as an advocate in 1990 and practiced in various branches of law, including civil, criminal, and constitutional matters. He held roles such as Arbitrator, Amicus Curiae, and Advocate Commissioner, and served as Standing Counsel for Nalgonda District Co-operative Central Bank.
He was elevated as a judge of the High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad in 2017, where he disposed of over 87,000 cases. He took oath as a judge of the Tripura High Court on October 28, 2021.
