The Union government has approved the elevation of Advocate Ajit Kumar as judge of the Patna High Court and Advocate Tuhin Kumar Gedela as Additional Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
As per a notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice on Friday, in exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President was pleased to appoint Advocate Ajit Kumar as judge of the Patna High Court with effect from the date he assumed charge of his office.
The information regarding the elevation of Advocate Tuhin Kumar Gedela as an Additional Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court was shared on social media by Minister for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal on August 1.
The Supreme Court Collegium had proposed the appointment of Advocate Ajit Kumar as Patna High Court judge on July 3.
It had proposed the appointment of Advocate Tuhin Kumar as an Additional Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on July 2.
The Andhra Pradesh High Court is currently functioning with 28 judges as against its sanctioned strength of 37, with a vacancy position of 9.
As on August 1, the Patna High Court is functioning with a strength of 36 judges as against its sanctioned strength of 53, with a vacancy position of 17.
