Centre notifies appointment of 53 judicial members to GSTAT

The Central government has notified the appointment of 53 judicial members to various Benches of the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) across the country, including the Principal Bench in New Delhi. 

As per a notification issued by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Department of Personnel & Training Secretariat of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet under the Ministry of Finance, Justice (Retd) Mayank Kumar Jain, who previously served as a judge of the Allahabad High Court, has been appointed as judicial member (Principal Bench), GSTAT, New Delhi. 

He will serve for a period of four years with a fixed salary of Rs 2,25,000 per month or until he attains the age of 67 years, whichever is earlier.

The Ministry further appointed 52 judicial members to various State Benches of GSTAT at the same monthly pay scale of Rs 2,25,000. These appointees come from a diverse pool of retired judges, practicing advocates, and former tribunal members, bringing a wealth of judicial and legal experience to the GST appellate system.

The appointments span across individuals from various judicial services and states, including retired Judicial Officers from State Higher Judicial Services, former Tribunal Members,  experienced Practicing Advocates, and 

serving Judicial Members from existing Tribunals. 

These include Ajai Kumar Srivastava, Retired District Judge; Bhaskar Reddy Vemireddy, Designated Senior Advocate, Telangana High Court; Atul Madhukar Kurhekar, Retired Judge and Former Secretary General, Supreme Court of India; Gunvantlal Manchanddas Patel, Member (President Incharge), Gujarat Value Added Tax Tribunal, Ahmedabad;

H.G. Nagarathna, Presiding Officer, Industrial Tribunal, Bengaluru;

P. Dinesha, Practicing Advocate and Member (Judicial), CESTAT;

Ramesh Nair, Member (Judicial), CESTAT, Ahmedabad;

Justice (Retd.) Roopesh Chandra Varshney, Retired Judge, MP High Court;

Shailaja Shashikant Sawant, Judicial Member, Maharashtra Sales Tax Tribunal; Sushil Kumar Sharma, serving Judicial Member, MP Arbitration Tribunal; and  Vishesh Sharma, Retired District & Sessions Judge, UP, Chairman, Lok Adalat, Jhansi. 

The appointees come from across the country, including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Gujarat, Karnataka, Odisha, and Jharkhand, ensuring pan-India representation in GSTAT benches.
