Blue Whale game: SC orders Doordarshan to create educative programmes

Adjudging the Blue Whale game as “dangerous” and commenting that it should never be allowed to reach kids over the internet, the Supreme Court bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and justices A M Khanwilkar, D Y Chandrachud on Friday (October 27) directed public broadcaster Doordarshan, in collaboration with Human Resource Department and the Women and Child Welfare department, to make and broadcast educative programmes on the bad effect of the game and other such games.

The idea behind such programmes is to create awareness among the parents so that their children will not get trapped in such games.

The bench also directed Doordarshan to create the programme within a week and get it verified by a competent authority. Additionally, it also instructed private channels to telecast the same programme at appropriate time.

Earlier, Additional Solicitor General PS Narasimha had submitted that the ministry of information and technology ministry was looking into how to contain this game.
