In a writ petition taken as a PIL field by T N Godavarman Thirumulpad, the Supreme Court bench of Justices Madan B Lokur and Deepak Gupta was told on Monday (February 19) that forests were being misused, resulting in an ecological imbalance.

While appealing in general for court intervention for protection and conservation of forests throughout the country, protection of wild life, ban on felling of trees and of the falling of underground water level, appellant also made one specific complaint.

The counsel for the petition submitted that there should be guidelines laid down regarding trespass of forest rest houses. He explained that these houses were built and maintained for specific purposes and this should be approved by the court.
