SC finds draft on Cauvery Management Board Scheme in order, asks Centre to implement it

538

The Supreme Court bench headed by Justice A M Khanwilkar on Friday (May 18) said that it found that the Centre’s draft Cauvery Management Board Scheme presented to it by Attorney general K K Venugopal yesterday was in consonance with its February 16 order.

The court, therefore, said that the Centre must now implement it.

The court said that it found the draft also conforms to Section 6A of the Inter-State River Water Disputes Act.

Hence no contempt action will be taken, the court said.

The contempt was been thought about because the Centre had failed to submit the draft despite several warnings by the court. The Central government had been postponing it under some pretext or other, till the day before yesterday the court said that thedraft has to be submitted in 24 hours. That was when the AG submitted it yesterday.

The original deadline for this was February 16.
