The apex court on Monday (July 2) dismissed a petition challenging the appointment of KV Chowdary as Chief Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) and TM Bhasin as Vigilance Commissioner.
The bench of Justices Arun Mishra and Mohan M Shantanagoudar found no merit in the plea filed by NGO Common Cause which had claimed that the appointments were unfair as Chowdary and Bhasin had blemished records. Additionally, the plea had also doubted the methods which were employed for the appointments terming them “non-transparent”.
The Centre’s counsel had said that the selection committee comprising of Prime Minister, Home minister and opposition leader in the Lok Sabha had discharged their duty responsibly by selecting the right candidate.
Chowdary and Bhasin were among the best of the candidates who were screened for the job and before that their records were investigated thoroughly, the Centre’s counsel said.
