The apex court on Thursday (August 2) slammed the Centre for not extending pay-scale benefits to the non-judicial staff of subordinate courts as advocated by the 6th Pay Commission and backed by the Shetty Commission.

The bench comprising CJI Dipak Misra and Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud said: “Judiciary needs attention and funds for its proper functioning. The situation of the judiciary has to be looked upon.”

It further ordered that copy of Shetty Commission should be sent to chief secretaries and secretaries of law ministry.

The matter was posted for next hearing to August 25.

The court was acting on the plea which has raised concern over the non-disbursal of funds/salaries to the non-judicial staff of subordinate courts as advocated by the 6th Pay Commission.
