The Patiala House Court on Friday sought a report from the Director General, Prison and Tihar Jail authority on the application from British middleman accused in the AugustaWestland scam, Christian Michel seeking a separate cell in the jail.

Michel was arrested in Dubai and brought to Delhi earlier this month and was remanded to custody. He is currently in Judicial Custody in Tihar Jail where, according to the application moved by him, other members of the cell were bothering him with too many questions.

Counsel for Christian Michel moved an application seeking directions to Superintendent of Police to locate him in a separate cell. “There are apprehension to safety and security. Accused may be located separate cell,” he argued. The court pointed out to counsel for Michel that he could not be put in seclusion as that would be against an apex court judgment that said that only in exceptional cases could someone be allowed to be in jail in seclusion.

When the CBI counsel informed the court that he was moving an application for Michel’s production in court tomorrow, the court responded by saying that “we can call for the records from the jail superintendent”.

CBI Counsel DP Singh said: “He is treated in accordance with law.”
