The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition seeking a stay on the release of the biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The apex court said the petitioner’s request was “premature” as the movie was yet to get the certificate for screening from the Censor Board and was therefore not inclined to entertain the petition for the stay.
It said even if the film is released on April 11, as the petitioner claims, he should approach the Election Commission with his petition. “We therefore do not consider it fit to entertain the petition,” a bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices Deepak Gupta and Sanjiv Khanna said.
