A Delhi court on Friday granted bail to Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on a personal bond of Rs 20,000 in Scorpion sitting on a Shivling remark case.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal also fixed July 25 for recording of statement of complainant BJP Leader Rajeev Babbar.

The court was hearing a criminal defamation complaint against Tharoor for his remark that PM Narendra Modi is “a scorpion seating on a Shivling”. Babbar had claimed in the plea that Tharoor made the remark with sinister motive which not only demeaned the Hindu deity but was also offensive.

Speaking at a literature festival on Oct 28, 2018, Tharoor had remarked: “Modi is like a scorpion sitting on a Shivling. You cannot remove him with your hand and you cannot hit it with a ‘chappal’ (slipper) either.”
