Rajasthan High Court

In what is perhaps a first of its kind, a full bench of the Rajasthan High Court has decided to do away with the practice of referring to judges as “My Lord” and “Your Lordship”.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the full court on Sunday after which the Rajasthan High Court Registrar General today issued a statement. The Bar Council of India (BCI) rules do not mandate the use of “My Lord” and “Your Lordship” when it comes to addressing the members of the Bench. In the past, judges of the apex court as well as some of the hoigh courts have stated that it is not necessary to address them in such terms which said were of colonial mindset.
