Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal on Monday sought listing of petition for initiation of contempt proceedings against an 88-year-old professor who allegedly cursed Senior Advocate Rajeev Dhavan saying that he will be physically debilitated for taking up the Muslim cause against divine being Ram Lalla in Ayodhya case.
On the submissions of Sibal, a five-judge bench headed by CJI Ranjan Gogoi ordered listing of the plea tomorrow.
Dhavan had filed a plea seeking contempt proceedings against the Professor last week saying that the Professor had sent him a letter intimidating him for representing Muslim parties in the Ayodhya title dispute case.
“The letter was sent C/o. Supreme Court Bar Association and the staff of Supreme Court Bar Association handed over the said letter to the petitioner on August 22, 2019.
“By sending the letter, the alleged contemnor has committed criminal contempt because he is intimidating a senior advocate who is appearing for a party/parties before the top court and discharging his duties as a senior advocate and he ought not to have sent such a letter and therefore the petitioner is constrained to file the present contempt petition,” Dhavan said in the plea.
