Supreme Court Rejects Karti’s Request For Release Of Rs 10 Crore Deposited With Registry

Troubles continue to pile up for the Chidambarams. While the former union minister P Chidambaram spent his first night in a cell at the Tihar jail, his son Karti Chidambaram, also facing charges in a cluth of cases was on Friday told by the Supreme Court that the Rs Ten crores that he had deposited with the top court’s registry for getting permission to travel abroad would continue to be with the registry for at three more months.

A bench headed by Justice Deepak Gupta said the amount will continue to remain in fixed deposit for another three months.

Karti Chidambaram, who is facing proceedings in cases like Aircel-Maxis and money laundering matters, had deposited Rs. 10 crore pursuant to the condition imposed by the top court for travelling abroad.This is the second time the court dismissed his plea seeking return of the Rs. 10 crore.

In January this year, the court had given permission to Karti to travel abroad after depotiing the amount with the registry. He had sought permission to travel to France, Spain, Germany and the United Kingdom for international tennis tournaments.
