Former Union Minister P Chidambaram on Thursday moved Supreme Court seeking bail in the INX Media corruption case.

In the bail plea, Chidambaram said that his health is worsening as he is not habitual to the food that is being given in the jail.

On Thursday, Senior Adv Kapil Sibal mentioned the matter for urgent listing before a bench headed Justice NV Ramana who said that the matter would be placed before CJI.

The Delhi High Court on Sep 30 had rejected Chidambaram’s bail petition saying that Chidambaram could indulge in influencing the witnesses in the case.

“This Court cannot dispute the fact that the petitioner has been a strong Finance Minister and Home Minister and presently, Member of Indian Parliament. He is a respectable member of the Bar Association of Supreme Court of India.

“He has long standing in the Bar as a Senior Advocate. He has deep roots in the Indian society and may be some connections abroad. But, the fact that he will not influence the witnesses directly or indirectly, cannot be ruled out,” Justice Suresh Kumar Kait had stated while rejecting his plea.
