The Supreme Court on Monday accepted Centre’s recommendations to give away the razed Guru Ravidas temple site to a panel of devotees to rebuild the temple in Tughlakabad area in South Delhi.

On Oct 18, the Centre had submitted the recommendations after which the court adjourned the matter for today. The Centre had proposed the handover of the site saying that it would ensure peace and harmony.

Attorney General KK Venugopal told a bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra that the Centre has decided to render the land to followers in view of the complexity of the matter after holding a discussion with all concerned sides, including the devotees and government officials.

On Oct 4, the apex court had asked all the disputants to hold discussion with the AG and to come out with an alternative harmoniously.

The top court was hearing pleas seeking reconstruction of the Guru Ravidas temple in the Tughlaqabad forest area.
