Will purchase 100 bogies for handicapped citizens: Railway to Delhi High Court

Delhi High Court

Mr. Jagjit Singh, Counsel for Railway on Monday gave oral submission in the Delhi High Court that they are in the process of purchasing 100 bogies for visually impaired/handicapped citizens.

The bench presided by Chief Justice DN Patel and C Hari Shankar has asked the counsel to give the submission on an affidavit by the next date of hearing.

The bench was hearing a matter taken on its own motion wherein a student from St.Stephen College missed the deadline due to non-allotment of reserved seat in train on time. The Court, taking the matter on priority, formed a committee including the experts on the railways and few other stakeholders having keen interest in the Railway matters.

The Court delved down on the aspect of providing free human assistance and reserved berth on the trains, which is still under consideration. However, the submission by the counsel on Monday brings hope into the arena of activism for the visually impaired citizen.

Mr. SK Rungta, designated senior advocate, has been appointed as amicus curiae in this matter.
