The Income Tax Department has made it mandatory to link Aadhaar with Permanent Account Number. The deadline for linking Aadhaar with PAN is December 31st.
A notification released by the I-T department on Sunday had said that no further extension will be given.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) which frames policies for the I-T Department has extended the deadline. The earlier deadline was September 30 of this year.
“Building a better tomorrow! To reap seamless benefits of income tax services, complete the vital link before December 31st 2019”, read the statement.
Supreme Court Order
The Supreme Court, in its judgement in September 2018, upheld the constitutional validity of Aadhaar scheme. The court had also ruled that Aadhaar linking would be mandatory for the filing of I-T returns and allotment of PAN.
