Gargi molestation: Delhi High Court agrees to hear plea seeking CBI probe

The Delhi High Court on Friday agreed to hear on Monday a Public Interest Litigation petition seeking CBI investigation into incidents of mass sexual harassment in Gargi college that took place on February 6, inside Gargi college during their annual cultural fest ‘Reverie 2020.

A division bench comprising Justices GS Sistani and C Hari Shankar agreed to list the plea by advocate ML Sharma after the Supreme Court refused to entertain the plea asked him to move the Delhi High Court.

The bench asked Sharma why it should take the matter urgently? To this, the advocate responded that Till today, nothing has been done. On 9th after the student protest escalated, police registered an FIR and arrested 10 persons two days back. They will destroy all the evidence.

Metropolitan Magistrate at Saket Court today granted bail to all the 10 persons arrested by Delhi Police.

The petitioner submitted that the said instances were a part of a pre-planned conspiracy.

Sharma further argued that that there was deliberate inaction on part of the police and administration.

“The men came in trucks and entered the campus around 4:30 pm during the fest. They continued to harass the girls for several hours and the ordeal continues till around 9 pm. Despite complaints being made by multiple students, no one called the police and asked for the arrest of the wrongdoers, said petitioner.

In the plea, Sharma sought court’s direction to the investigating agency to probe and seize all CCTV footage in and around Gargi campus, and arrest all the accused persons, including the political leader behind this “planned criminal conspiracy”.
