Coronavirus: Restricted functioning in SC from March 16

The functioning of the Supreme Court will be restricted from March 16 and only urgent matters will be listed before the benches in view of the coronavirus pandemic, an apex court notification said on Friday.

No person except the lawyers “who are going to act in the matter” shall be permitted in the Court and the mentioning of matters will be done only before the mentioning officers, the notification issued by Supreme Court Secretary General Sanjeev S. Kalgaonkar said.

The decision was taken pursuant to the advisory caution against mass gathering issued by The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on March 5 2020.

The Chief Justice of India SA Bobde yesterday had called a meeting to consider whether the Supreme Court should extend the vacation in the light of the coronavirus outbreak.

The meeting called by the CJI was attended by Justices Arun Mishra and UU Lalit along with the Attorney General of India KK Venugopal and the Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta.

Considering the growing threat of coronavirus, the Delhi High Court has postponed the Delhi Higher Judicial Services Main exam 2019. The decision was taken as a precautionary measure against the pandemic disease.

The court issued a notice in this regard which reads, “In order to prevent and control the outbreak of Novel Corona Virus (CoVid-19) which is a pandemic disease, the Delhi Higher Judicial Service (Mains) Examination-2019 scheduled to be held on March 14 and 15 stands postponed. Fresh dates of the examination would be notified later.”
