Yogi Adityanath government has booked several members of the Tablighi Jamaat under the National Security Act for misbehaving with the medical staff at a Ghaziabad hospital. The move followed reports that some members of the Jamaat who were brought in the hospital for check up had misbehaved with the female medical staffers. Earlier in the day it was reported that the people who were being picked up at various places were also misbehaving with the police and the government officials.
The FIR was registered after the Chief Medical Officer of the Hospital wrote to the police complaining that the Tablighi Jamaati members who are lodged are often roaming naked in the ward and making lewd gestures at female staff, agencies reported. The CMO has stated that the Jamaatis who are kept in the isolation ward make obscene comments and gestures and play songs at loud volume and often staff at the hospital are pestered beedis and cigarette.
The Uttar Pradesh government also ordered that all the women medical staffers and women policemen be removed from the wards where the members of the Tabligh Jamaat are admitted. Only male medical staff and male policemen are to be present in those wards.
In various parts of the country, the Jamaatis have been involved in anti-social acts like attacking medical teams who were searching for Tablighi members for who had attended the religious congregation to check them for possible infection, and spiting on doctors at an Isolation centre and beating up police and government officials
