Delhi’s AAP government has put the blame for the spurt in COVID19 cases in the capital on the Tablighi Jammat event that was held in Delhi in mid-March at event that was held in Delhi in mid-March.
Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain was quoted by newsagency ANI as saying that of the 669 positive cases for Coronavirus reported in the national capital so far, 426 originated at the event held at Nizamuddin Markaz last month.
Jain while speaking to ANI said that rapid testing for COVID-19 will be started as soon as the testing kits arrive. He said, “Testing will be first done with COVID-19 hotspots in the city. We have demanded the rapid testing kits from the centre and the centre has given orders to companies as well.”
As the scare of the novel epidemic is rapidly increasing with the increase in the number of cases, the Delhi government sealed 20 ‘hotspots’ where the cases of coronavirus are found the most in order to curb the epidemic.
From the moment authorities began their clampdown on the Tablighi Jamaat attendees, the latter have turned a law unto themselves. Refusing to undergo tests, misbehaving with medical and healthcare staff including female nurses, in hospital corridors and spitting, urinating and even excreting in and around the quarantine centre.
Yesterday, Delhi police zeroed in on the Jamaatis’s leader-on-the-run Maulana Saad at a house in South Delhi. They will take him into custody for interrogation once he finishes what he says is a self imposed quarantine.
