“We want to raise standard of members of the bar..Some lawyers are agitating, some are fighting, some are stabbing but very few are arguing.” These were the sharp observations made by Chief Justice of India while hearing the plea challenging All India Bar Examination (AIBE) post enrolment exams that are conducted by the Bar Council of India.
The CJI further observed, “We need to consider this issue and settle it.”
The bench of CJI, Justices UU Lalit and Banumathi appointed senior advocate K K Venugopal as the amicus curae, and asked him to give suggestions and mention issues that need to be considered by the bench.
The court also said that can suggest an amendment in the rules framed under Advocates Act, and the bench will consider issues of post-enrolment examination and pre-enrolment training.
The suggestions have to be given within four days.
The matter will be heard next week when the bench reassembles.
