Telangana HC Seeks Govt Report On Details Of Shelter Homes For Migrants, Others Rendered Homeless By Lockdown

The High Court of Telangana has directed the State Government to file a detailed report on the number of shelter homes available in the State to provide shelter to migrant workers and the homeless during COVID 19 lockdown.

The bench was hearing a petition in the form of a letter addressed to the Chief Justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan seeking a direction to the State Principal Home Secretary and Director General of Police to provide shelter to  all the stranded migrant workers into shelter homes.

The letter written by Advocate Nanda highlighted the plight of migrant workers and street dwellers who were living on the pavements in Hyderabad and Secunderabad posing serious threat of the spread of COVID 19.

The petitioner further submitted that the Police was not taking any action on shifting the migrants to the shelter homes.

The bench comprising Chief Justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan and Justice A Abhishek Reddy has directed the state government to file a detailed report on the number of shelter homes the state has, the facilities they have and the possibility of creating more such homes.

The matter has been listed for next hearing  on  May 7.
