The Delhi High Court on Friday directed that all the matters pending in the High Court, as well as lower Courts in which interim orders has been issued and are subsisting or expiring on 15th May 2020, will stand extended till 15th June 2020 or until further orders.
A three-judge bench presided by Chief Justice D.N. Patel, Justice Siddharth Mridul, and Justice Talwant Singh of Delhi High Court also noted that in case the extension causes any hardship of an extreme nature to any party to such proceeding, they are at liberty to avail appropriate remedy as per law.
The court has passed this direction taking sou moto cognizance of the extraordinary epidemic situation on the matter of orders expiring on or after 15th May 2020.
The Court has taken the cognizance of the issue under Article 226 and 227 of the Constitution. The steps have been taken in view of the lockdown in the State of Delhi and the extremely limited functioning of courts.
The court has also directed the order to be conveyed all the Standing Counsel, UOI, GNCTD, DDA, Civic Authorities, Delhi High Court Bar Association, all the other Bar Associations of Delhi, as well as to all District Courts subordinate to this Court. The matter is listed for 15th June 2020 for further consideration.
