In the case of Board of Control for Cricket vs Cricket Association of Bihar & Others; arguments and counter-arguments continued today. Cricket Association of Maharashtra and Cricket Association of Haryana presented arguments against the recommendations made by The Lodha Committee.
These two associations said that they provide all facilities to players under 16 and other players. Besides, they argued that the condition has improved tremendously and if the BCCI was defunct then the condition would be much worse.
Counsel for Saurashtra Cricket Association argued that they are one of the oldest cricketing associations of India with prominent players as their members.
Counsel for Cricket association of Saurashtra said that 70 year age limit curtails the choice, as age doesn’t justify the role.
Countering their claim, CJI stated if Gujarat is represented, will Saurashtra be excluded?
Saurashtra said that BCCI is undisputed as #1 cricket association in the world. Saurashtra comprises of 17 districts in Gujarat and cricket is rooted deep in their culture and in blood of the people. Counsel said that taking away voting rights will be unfair since Saurashtra has been historically contributing to the growth and development of the game.
Counsel for Cricket Association of Saurashtra submitted that, “A cannon ball is being used to kill a mosquito..”
Hearing on this matter would continue on May 3rd, 2016.
