Allahabad HC stays Basic Education teachers from taking up voter list revision duty

The Allahabad High Court has stayed the deployment of teachers of Basic Education Council as Booth Level Officers (BLO) for the revision of voters list and sought a response from the state government.

This order has been given by Justice Pankaj Bhatia on the Petition of Rakesh Vishwakarma and three others. The Court has given this order based on the instructions given in the Sunita Sharma case and Shri Krishna case.

The petitioner states that under Section 27 of the Compulsory Education Act 2009, Basic School Teachers are prohibited from taking non-academic work in addition to census, disaster relief, election duty.

Election duty is not included in the revision of electoral rolls. And there is no election going on yet. In such a situation, sending teachers on BLO duty is against the law. On which the Court has given this order.
