Allahabad HC asks Uttar Pradesh how many police stations have toilets for women

The UP Government has been asked to list the number of police stations in the state that have toilets for women. The Court has asked that this information be provided by February 15.

The Allahabad High Court on Wednesday sought information about the status of women toilets in police stations in Uttar Pradesh.

The order was given by a division bench of Justice Sanjay Yadav and Justice Jayant Banerjee on a PIL filed by law students Anjali Pandey and 12 others. The law students of various universities had filed the PIL demanding construction of toilets for women in police stations of Prayagraj city and repairing the ones that existed. Also, a demand has been issued to the Principal Secretary Home and DGP to provide funds to build toilets.

The petition said the absence of women’s toilets in police stations is a violation of women’s right to dignity and privacy.
