Prayagraj (ILNS): The Allahabad High Court has stayed the suspension of inspector Anjani Kumar Srivastava, posted at Kareli Police Station in Prayagraj. The Inspector was suspended by IG Prayagraj Zone on September 9.
Justice Ajay Bhanot stayed the suspension order and issued a notice to the state government and senior officers of the police department to file their replies.
Senior Advocate Vijay Gautham, appearing for the Petitioner, said the suspension order was legally incorrect. There was no basis of passing the suspension order against the Petitioner and the order passed is contrary to the law and order given by the High Court in the Jai Singh Dixit and Sachchidanand Tripathi cases.
The inspector is alleged to have been lax in taking action against an accused even after the video of a fight with a woman working in a gym in Kareli area went viral.
Due to this, he was suspended under the provisions of Rule 17 (1) (a) of UP Subordinate Category Police Officers Penal and Appeal Rules-1991 and attached to Police Line Prayagraj.
