The Supreme Court bench of Justices A K Sikri and Ashok Bhushan on Thursday (July 5) ordered the circulation of a letter seeking termination of a top court “tradition” and rule of giving an advocate’s chamber to his son/daughter practising in the same court on his death.
Petitioner Vishnu Shankar Jain states that the rule is “patently discriminatory” and violative of Article 14 in so far it confers a privilege on the basis of descent.
The matter will be kept in circulation and will be taken up after a week on a non miscellaneous day for final disposal.
